O Me, Of Little Faith (kinda introduction to Nevins Manafe)

The School Bus - photo by Troy2

It was on a Sabbath (Saturday) morning, our guitar group ministry was going to do few special numbers in a city nearby our college campus in the Philippines (On Ever Onward dear AUP...). AUP is a boarding school, so to exit the campus students must secure "gate pass" from their dormitory dean. This pass will be required by the campus security guarding the campus entrance gate.

That sunny Sabbath morning, Nevins and I were walking with our guitars on our back heading to the campus gate. As we started to see the gate, I asked him, "So you got our gatepasses?"

Calmly he answered, "Nope."

"You gotta be joking," I started to get nervous, "How are we going to exit the campus without gatepasses?", I asked.

"Don't worry bro, God will take care of it!", he replied.

I strongly doubt that, how would God help you if you're not doing your part, I think silently. Little did I know I'm about to see a miracle.

Lo and behold, next to the gate was a school bus. Not just a random school bus, but one that was an answer to my question.

So we were about to reach the campus gate and we stopped to wait for some of our friends in our guitar ministry group. Then we talked to the bus driver who was also waiting for passengers of his bus.

"Where is this bus going, Sir?", Nevins asked.

"It's going to .... (I forgot where), these high school students are going to have ministry there.", the driver answered.

"Are you going to pass Balibago*?", Nevins asked. (*bus and jeepney station to get where we were going)

"Yes, we are!", the driver replied.

"Can we ride with you and drop us at Balibago?", Nevins said.

"Sure, you can!", the driver said with no hesitation.

"This is our ride and gatepass bro!", Nevins told me.

Not long after that, our friends showed up and we rode on that bus. The campus security guards didn't ask us about our gate passes because they thought we were part of the high school students ministry. The driver also dropped us at Balibago where we could take jeepney to our destination church.

I just couldn't believe what have just happened.

I understood that, as Pastor's kid, Nevins naturally have strong faith. But I wasn't prepared for this. Part of me still think that we were lucky, but the other part believed that God really showed the way and I should have more faith.

Was it really because Nevins's faith? or not?

What do you think guys?

  2. Bro, nice post. Well, i know this might sound discouraging but i think it was a luck. Security guard did not perform due diligence in checking illegal passengers. Hehehe.. also, you know very well, hanging out with Nevins might give you 50% chance ending up in jail or at least in security square... hehehe. For me, when i have done my best (with all my strength and heart) but the result was still made me hopeless and doubt, that was the time i started to learn to have faith. So, please prepare your gate pass before you go out from campus because the school bus is not always there to save you.. heheh...

    Your friend in God,

    Roy

    1. First of all gatepasses are issued out for individual use only. Except for some cases it can be issued out collectively, for example is for a registered group (at the Student Affair Office), i can assure you that our group is not a registered group.

What happened on that day that my bro djitz was asking me for a blank gatepass because he is so good at hand drawing that he can draw the deans signature without a flaw. Im aint gonna give him a blank because im saving them for my date the next day.

Faith or not, we bad boys done some ministry that day.. i dont know about them good boys.

      Hehe

  3. Good point, though the chance if even increased to 90% when one is hanging out with both of you. I like your example of when to have faith. Thank you bro!
